5:00pm Dinner in Dallas area to review pre-flight planning (30 minutes ground
instruction)

9:00pm Arrival in Amarillo, TX (3607 feet MSL)
9:30pm Shuttle to Ashmore Suites in Amarillo (separate rooms of course)
Friday
6:00am Breakfast to review pre-flight planning
6:30am To airport
7:15am Westward route will take us through Cimarron Canyon and past Eagle Nest
Lake to Angel Fire, NM
8:15am (7:15am MT) Stop and go at Angel Fire, NM (8380 feet MSL)
7:30am Over Palo Fuchida Pass to Taos, NM
7:45am Rest stop in Taos (7091 feet MSL)
8:30am Northern route through the San Luis Valley with ridge work on west side of
Sangre De Cristo Mountains; over the Continental Divide at North Pass
10:15am Land in Gunnison, CO (7678 feet MSL); rent car
11:00am Lunch in Gunnison with 1 hour ground instruction
12:30pm Afternoon option of relaxing at the Holiday Inn Express or sightseeing in the
area. The most popular destination is Alpine Tunnel. This historic railroad tunnel was the first
through the Continental Divide in 1880. It is located at 11,600 feet and the drive to the tunnel is
spectacular!
5:00pm Dinner in Gunnison
6:00pm To airport
6:45pm Evening flight in Gunnison area. This flight will explore sunset operations in the
mountains. Flight highly subject to evening weather conditions.
7:45pm Land in Gunnison, CO
8:15pm To motel
Saturday
6:00am Breakfast to review pre-flight planning
6:30am To airport
7:15am Departure to the east crossing over Marshall Pass and turning sharply north to
skirt the Collegiate Range and the Continental Divide prior to flying a “careful” pattern into Leadville.
8:30am Land in Leadville, CO (9927 feet MSL, highest airport in USA!)
9:15am Departure to the south down the Arkansas Valley, passing the Royal Gorge in
route to Pueblo, CO
11:00am Arrive in Pueblo (4726 feet MSL) for one hour of ground as a de-brief/lunch
1:00pm Departure for 3-hours cross-country to Norman, OK. Special emphasis on
Cross Country flying engine operations/leaning, etc.
5:00pm (4:00pm MT) Stop in Norman, OK for dinner on the field
6:15pm Departure
7:30pm Arrival in Dallas
